Music Center presents free concert series

The Ferris State University Music Center is presenting a variety of free concerts to students and the public. The third concert of the seven-part series will take place at 8 p.m. on Nov. 13 in Williams Auditorium. The jazz band performance will feature the musical contributions of Miles Davis.

At 4 p.m. on Nov. 17, the West Central Chamber Orchestra will perform in Williams Auditorium. On Nov. 19 at 4 p.m., there will be a choir performance at the Big Rapids High School auditorium.

New art exhibit opens

The “Bobcats to Bobwhites; Nature & Wildlife in Art” exhibit will run from Nov. 8 until Jan. 25. The exhibition is located at Artworks in downtown Big Rapids, Card Wildlife Education Center and display cases in Williams Audition and FLITE.

The opening reception and artist presentation is free of charge and will take place at 6 p.m. on Nov. 13 at Artworks.

The display features paintings, taxidermy and a variety of bird print art. Jan Van Hoesen and Randy Hendricks are the main artists of the display. The exhibit combines art, science and other related subject matters.

Native American Speaker to discuss heritage

The Office of Multicultural Student Services presents speaker Steve (Naganashe) Perry as part of the 2013 Native American Heritage Month Celebration. “What Is It To Be A Warrior” will take place at 11 a.m. on Nov. 14 in IRC 120.

Perry descends from the Naganashe family of the Wagnakising Odawa and the Shingwauk family reserve in Ontario. He has been teaching students about the Native American culture for more than 25 years.

Musician performing at The Rock

Entertainment Unlimited will bring musician Kyshona Armstrong to the Rock Café for a concert at 8 p.m. on Nov. 14. Armstrong performs songs from genres such as bluegrass, folk, gospel and country.

Aside from admission into The Rock Café, there is no additional charge to view the show.

Twitter chat with industry leaders

This month’s #ProFresh Twitter chat will take place at 7 p.m. on Nov. 14 in IRC 107.

The Center of Leadership, Activities and Career Service’s goal is to bring industry leaders and students together to have an open dialogue about an industry and ask questions.

Free pizza will be served at the event; however, students can also participate from anywhere because communication takes place via Twitter. This is an opportunity to network and chat with professionals from all over the world.
