Off-campus shooting shuts down athletics
In the early hours of Feb. 1, an off-campus shooting in the Venlo apartment complex closed more than just campus buildings and classes.
Ferris men’s and women’s basketball was scheduled to tip off against Saginaw Valley State University at Jim Wink arena in the early afternoon, but the University postponed both games due to safety concerns as the suspect had not been caught yet.
As of Feb. 4, News Services and Ferris Social Media Manager Sandy Gholston confirmed that make-up games were in the works, but had not yet been scheduled.
Football signing day in Wheeler Pavilion
Ferris football signing day is today, Feb. 5, inside Wheeler Pavilion above Top Taggart Field.
Head coach Tony Annese will welcome his third recruiting class to Ferris State at 12:30 p.m. with the assistance of Assistant Athletics Director Rob Bentley.
Today is National Signing Day for college football, where high school recruits from around the United States commit to their college of choice.
In addition to announcing the new class of recruits, Annese will be on hand to answer the media’s questions following the introductions.
Ferris hockey returns home to play Northern Michigan
After a month-long hiatus from Ewigleben Ice Arena, the WCHA first-place and nationally ranked No. 6 Bulldogs will return to play the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Feb. 7-8.
The Bulldogs are coming off their bye week, which was much needed following numerous injuries sustained in the Michigan Tech series that included sophomore forward Kenny Babinski and freshman forward Seth Adams.
The Wildcats split a home series with Minnesota State in Marquette on Jan. 31-Feb. 1 with a 5-2 victory and a 5-1 loss.
Minnesota State is now two points behind Ferris State in the WCHA standings, while Northern Michigan currently sits in eighth.
