Daniels, Motte headline list of WCHA honorees

A slew of Bulldogs, including head coach Bob Daniels, were awarded WCHA laurels for their performances during the regular season.

Daniels, who is in his 22nd season at the helm for Ferris, was voted the WCHA Coach of the Year by his peers. Daniels led the Bulldogs to a 25-9-3 season in their first year in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

Junior goaltender CJ Motte also received conference praise as he was Ferris’ only All-WCHA First Team selection. Motte earned each of the Bulldogs’ 25 wins minding the net this season.

Seniors Scott Czarnowczan and Garrett Thompson nabbed second-team honors with junior Jason Binkley being named to the third-team list. Freshman forward Kyle Schempp was also named to the All-WCHA rookie team.

Bulldog softball on three game winning streak

Ferris State’s softball program wrapped up its week-long road trip with three victories as they competed in the Florida Rebel Spring Games.

The Bulldogs posted wins over Maryville (Mo.), St. Cloud State (Minn.), and Lees-McRae (N.C.) in the final two days of the six-day tournament.

The team finished the FRSG with a 4-6 record as the team fell to a five-game skid prior to their three-game winning streak. Following the spring games, the Bulldogs’ record stands at 5-6 heading into conference play.

Ferris next hosts Ashland University in a conference double-header on March 22 as they hope to kick off the home schedule with their first GLIAC win.
