Gold team takes W in annual football spring game

Ferris State football closed out their spring training schedule with an intersquad contest with the annual Crimson and Gold spring game.

The Gold team, which wore white jerseys as opposed to red for the Crimson squad, sealed the 29-24 spring matchup on a late game interception by junior linebacker James Wimberly. The game used a modified scoring method where turnovers counted for three points and first downs scored one point, in addition to the normal scoring system.

Crimson made a strong effort in the later half as freshman running back DeShun Brown ran for four first downs in the third quarter.

In the end, Gold ultimately closed out the game on defense, taking the contest 29-24 at the final whistle.

Ferris got rolling offensively early in game one, posting four runs in the second inning. The Lakers answered in the fourth with their lone run of the night as pitcher Cara DeLange stifled LSSU. Freshman pitcher Stacy Thompson closed the game out and earned her fourth save of the season.

Ferris picked up right where they left off in game two, scoring at least one run in each of the prerequisite five innings. Ferris ended the game 8-0, logging their first double-header home sweep.
