Ferris Hockey coaches to speak at Sports Speaker Series event

Ferris State University’s head hockey coach, Bob Daniels, will speak about his coaching experience on April 23 at 4:30 p.m. in IRC 107 as a part of the Spring 2014 Sports Speaker Series.

Associate head coach Drew Famulak will also be at the event to talk about the success of Ferris’ hockey program. The event is free and open to the public.

Anyone interested in attending is asked to RSVP with Sandy Alspach in advance due to limited seating.

Deadline for intramural sports

Ferris State University’s intramurals sport tournament signup deadlines are approaching. The last day to sign up for the IM softball, spikeball, bags/corn hole, or Texas Hold ‘Em tournament is April 24.

The deadline for the Ultimate Frisbee tournament is April 28.

World-class hypnotist to perform at Ferris

Sailesh the Hypnotist will perform at Williams Auditorium April 29 at 7 p.m.

Sailest puts a modern twist on his live entertainment acts, which has earned him the title of Best Hypnotist by numerous international media outlets.

This event is meant for mature audiences only.

Free training to become severe weather spotter

Skywarn severe weather training will be held at the West Campus Community Center April 26 from 10 a.m. to noon. The session is free of charge and does not require pre-registration.

Skywarn is the National Weather Service program that trains volunteers to become severe weather spotters. Despite elaborate radar and forecasting equipment, the National Weather Service relies on the public and law enforcement to recognize potential severe weather.

Winners of Distinguishing Staff Awards announced

Ferris State University Distinguishing Staff awardees and other award winners will be recognized at the annual Employee Service Awards Celebration on April 23 at the Big Rapids Holiday Inn.

The award honors individuals who exemplify excellence in their work. This year’s winners are Jennifer Amlotte, director of Marketing and Admissions in Extended and International Operations; Brandi Behrenwald, assistant director of Alumni Relations; Robert Bentley, assistant Athletics director for communications; Ramona Larson, of Food Services and The Rock Café; and Deedee Stakley, director of the Transfer Services Center.
