The FSU Dance Team, currently consisting of eight members, offers their entertainment skills at FSU athletic events.
They can also be spotted around campus getting down to jazz, hip-hop and pom music at events including Homecoming Week, Bulldog Beginnings and Rec Fest.
“Being on the team allows me to be involved in a club sport and RSO events as well,” Pharmacy senior and FSU Dance Team president Jessica Maas said.
Those with a competitive edge and a desire for little challenge should also consider joining the dance team. In order to become a member, students must participate in competitive tryouts.
The FSU Dance Team has recently started competing at a national level against other colleges.
“This summer, our team went down to National Dance Alliance camp in Louisville, Kentucky, and we received a bid to their national competition,” Maas said.
The FSU Dance Team will continue to attend the NDA College National Championship in Daytona, Florida in April 2015.
This will be the first time in Ferris State history that the dance team is represented at this competition.
Being involved with the team also opens doors to meeting other creative Ferris students.
“All of these things have helped me to meet many people at Ferris,” Maas said. “I love being able to represent and support our school at every event throughout the year.”
Maas, who has held presidency of the Dance Team for three years, has been dancing since she was just three years old and competing since she was nine years old. She is thankful that Ferris’ team allows her to continue to display her skills through an outlet she loves.
FSU students who love to dance and pride themselves on self-confidence and a healthy lifestyle can attend tryouts on September 6at 10 a.m. in the Wink Arena.
