University president released from hospital

Ferris State University President Dr. David Eisler has been released from the hospital where he was undergoing tests and treatment for kidney complications.

The weekly President’s Memorandum began with a message from Eisler, notifying campus that his schedule will be limited this week. Eisler was released from a Grand Rapids hospital on Saturday, Dec. 6, and had been there since Tuesday, Dec. 2.

Eisler does plan on attending Winter commencement and the Employee Holiday Reception according to the weekly memo, but will not attend “Pancakes with the President,” tonight at 9:30 p.m. at the Rock Cafe, as he is still recovering. The event will take place despite his absence.

Eisler has served as President of Ferris State University since 2003. Eisler earned bachelor and doctoral degrees in Clarinet Performance at the University of Michigan, and earned his master’s degree at Yale University. In 2007, he was inducted into the University of Michigan School of Music Theatre and Dance’s Hall of Fame.

In 2013, Eisler was named Newsmaker of the Year in Education by the Grand Rapids Business Journal.
