Vander Meer Receives Player of the Week Honors

Ferris State volleyball player Megan Vander Meer had quite the weekend in the Colorado Premier Challenge on Sept. 11 and 12th.
The senior outside hitter was awarded the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) player of the week award for her performance that weekend. She earned all-tournament honors for her play in Boulder, Colo.

Ferris Washes Walsh at Home

On Sunday, the Ferris State Women’s Soccer team took on Walsh at home. Two first-half goals proved to be enough as Ferris took the game 2-0 improving their record to 5-2.
It was a dominant performance as the lady Bulldogs had almost double the shots on goal that Walsh was able to manage (11 shots to six). The first goal came in the ninth minute after freshman defender Carley Dubbert passed the ball into the box for senior forward Nichole Boenke to knock in. Near the end of the first half, Carley Dubbert got rewarded for her earlier assist by receiving a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Rachel Fouts in the 30th minute.
No more scoring was needed as the Bulldogs played tremendous defense. After two early losses in the season, the Bulldogs are rebounding hard, winning their last five games (2-0 in conference). The team will play next on Friday against Malone at 4 p.m. in Canton, Ohio.

Former Ferris Goalie Plays in Buffalo

The most winningest goalie in Ferris State history, C.J. Motte, got his first taste of National Hockey League (NHL) action last week.
Motte played between the pipes for the Buffalo Sabres in a 3-2 overtime win in the Prospects Challenge on Sept. 14th. He saved 27 of 29 shots he faced against the Boston Bruins prospects. After letting in two goals in the first period, Motte caught his footing and was a stone wall for the remainder of the game.
The Sabres came back to score two goals in regulation and the game was forced to overtime. As the game was nearing its end, the number two overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, Jack Eichel, 18, scored a goal to bring home the win for the Sabres.
Motte was awarded with the win with a .931 save percentage. He played on Ferris State’s hockey team from 2011 to 2015.
