$18 million goes to scholarship endowment

At last week’s Ferris Foundation benefit event in Grand Rapids, the Board of Trustees voted to allocate Ferris’ surprise $18 million refund from the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System into the Ferris Foundation to be used for scholarships. President David Eisler said the goal is to double the Foundation’s endowment fund to $36 million by 2022.

Voorhees music festival

A wide variety of musical acts will perform at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13 at The Gate for Voorhees Fest. The student-coordinated production will feature 12 local and regional artists on two stages, one for rock music and the other for electronic and hip hop. Tickets will cost $10 at the door.

What inspires you?

Artworks will host a reception celebrating 15 years in Big Rapids with its exhibit “Nature as the Common Element” at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13. The exhibit features painting, prints and fabrics by national artists Carrie Weis Sterner, Kristin Ettinger, Kathleen VandeMark and Kym Nicolas. At 6 p.m., the artists will host a panel discussing “What inspires you?”

Thanksgiving recess

Ferris’ Thanksgiving recess will begin at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 25. Class will resume on Monday, Nov. 30.
