The advertisement on page 5 in the Sept. 26, 2018, edition of the Torch was not properly labeled as a paid advertisement. The advertisement may appear to be the Torch’s editorial content or a biased piece, which is not the case. The Torch is not and will not be involved in ad placement and this advertisement was unknown to staff until the paper’s publication.
This situation violates the Torch’s policies in journalistic professionalism, and we apologize for any confusion regarding this advertisement. The Torch embraces the Society of Professional Journalists’ Code of Ethics and does not take a position with either side in the ongoing contract negotiation conflict.
The Torch will continue to strive to accurately and fairly report all issues related to campus.
