Hailey Nye, a design senior known for her affinity for rocks, was found dead on Oct. 30. The location of the incident was on the Northern perimeter of the David L. Eisler Center.
Based on security camera footage, she was searching for rocks in the rock beds surrounding the David L. Eisler Center, filling her pockets and backpack until they were overflowing. It is suspected that the weight of the rocks caused the following events to ensue.
The ground collapsed beneath her, revealing an expansive cave system beneath Ferris State’s campus. The Department of Public Safety has the site of the incident blocked off until the entrance to the caves can be sealed.
“I swear I saw her down there,” friend of the deceased, Harmony Goodman said, “I was walking past where it happened and I heard her ask if I wanted to see her pudding stone collection.
