Men’s tennis falls to Toledo
As the men’s tennis team hit the court to start off the 2012 season, the University of Toledo Rockets ended up besting the Bulldogs 6-1. Ferris State University ended up taking its only points on the fifth singles match. However, even with the setback the tennis team members turned their heads to the home opener against Davenport University Feb. 21 in Big Rapids at the FSU Racquet and Fitness center with a 2-1 overall record. Results were not available in time for press.
FSU hockey garners Team of the Week honors
The Ferris State University hockey team’s winning streak has earned it Team of the Week honors for the second time this season. The Bulldogs took down the Notre Dame Fighting Irish a weekend ago before sweeping Bowling Green State University this past weekend. The team is currently ranked No. 1 overall as it continues on its roll of 13 consecutive non-losses, boasting a record of 10-0-3 in its past contests. FSU currently leads the CCHA by a wide margin and was the first team in the nation to reach the 20 win plateau. The Bulldogs’ next opponent is the Western Michigan Broncos this upcoming weekend.
FSU women’s track nationally ranked
The track team entered this week with a ranking of No. 23 nationally and is the first time the Bulldogs have been ranked in recent years. This year’s squad is led by senior standout Tina Muir who is one of the most decorated runners in Big Rapids history. Also in the top 25 rankings are six other GLIAC teams looking to make their mark during the season. Grand Valley State leads the pack with the No. 1 overall women’s track team. The track team’s next action is in the GLIAC indoor championships hosted by Findlay University Feb. 24—25.
