Ferris students can expect the largest and most diverse Career and Internship Fair Ferris has ever seen.
Due to the overwhelming response that the career fair has had, resulting in some employers being wait-listed, CLACS was forced to provide an overflow room.
“We sold out the Wink Arena and the gym [this semester],” Coordinator of Student Career Services Michele Albright said.
According to Albright, the average number of employers who attend the Career and Internship Fair is around 140. Ferris will welcome more than 170 employers for the Career and Internship Fair this Thursday.
“[The primary focus of Career Week] is to support Ferris’ mission of preparing students for successful careers by providing opportunities for students to explore occupations, develop and practice employability skills and connect with professionals that make the hiring decisions,” Albright said.
According to Albright, there will be a variety of employers, from the health and education industries to criminal justice, service occupations, technology and more.
Albright expressed the importance of students adding to their network and gaining knowledge of their industry by participating in the fair and all of Career Week. Students can also expect to discover new opportunities, make connections with professionals in their field and possibly land an interview.
Albright encourages students to be confident and talk to all the employers they can rather than just those hiring for certain majors.
Ferris sophomore insurance and risk management major Sarah Scobey attended the Career and Internship Fair in the fall.
“We come to college to learn skills that we need in the future and the [Career and Internship Fair] and [Career Week] workshops provide us with the extra help to apply them,” Scobey said.
She was excited to find employers seeking insurance majors even though the insurance program isn’t very large at Ferris.
Scobey plans to attend this semester’s fair and hopes to see more opportunities for College of Business students this semester.
The Career and Internship Fair will take place on Thursday, Feb. 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ewigleben Sports Complex. Professional dress attire is required for the event.
Albright suggests pre-planning research and a navigation plan to take full advantage of the fair.
“These employers have been told that Ferris students are career ready and exceptionally trained. We now challenge students to step forward, come out and support this event, and validate these compliments,” Albright said.
