The past two months in the Big Rapids area have been busy for police and even rescue work. Take a look at what has been on the docket for the Department of Public Safety.
July 25, 2014
A 17 year-old Big Rapids male committed armed robbery with a knife and brass knuckles near the 300 block of South Third Street.
Police reported that money was the sole property stolen.
The victim reportedly knew their assailant as an acquaintance.
The suspect was jailed and lodged for armed robbery and carry concealed weapon. The state police and Mecosta County Sheriffs aided in the arrest.
July 31, 2014
A 59 year-old male was discovered shortly after midnight face down in the Muskegon River near the 600 block of Osceola.
One officer swam out to the unresponsive man, while rescue personnel and another officer waited ashore for the officer to return with it. The man was cold to the touch and not breathing.
At the time of release to EMS, the reporting officer observed that a pulse had been restored, though his condition beyond that point was unknown.
August 8, 2014
A traffic stop at 2:56 a.m. resulted in the arrest of a 29 year-old Baldwin man for maintaining a mobile methamphetamine lab.
During the stop, officers located marijuana in the vehicle and upon further search, officers found that components for meth were in the vehicle, and meth was being produced at the time of the stop.
C.M.E.T. was contacted, and upon arriving at the scene to handle the methamphetamine as well as the charges against the man.
