Women’s tennis emerges top of the pack
In a dogfight between the Bulldogs of Ferris State and the Huskies of Michigan Tech, the women of the Ferris State tennis team came out on top 9-0 last Sunday. The team also triumphed against Lake Superior State 8-1 over the weekend, to start of their season with a 2-0 conference record.
The women were nearly perfect in singles flight over the weekend, capturing five of the six singles flights against LSSU, and sweeping the singles flights against MTU. The Dawgs were perfect in doubles matches, sweeping the flights against both the Lakers and the Huskies.
The women’s tennis team will see action next on Sept. 13 when they host Saginaw Valley State at 10 a.m. for their first home match of the season.
Vander Laan & Zimmer take preseason All-Americans
Two Bulldog seniors recently added another accolade to their lengthy list of accomplishments when they were named Preseason All-Americans. Quarterback Jason Vander Laan saw his name added to the first team list, while defensive lineman Justin Zimmer was awarded second team laurels.
The Bulldogs are coming off a momentous undefeated regular season, which earned them the privilege of hosting a playoff game at Top Taggart Field last year. Zimmer led the defensive front while Vander Laan commanded the offense through this impressive run.
The Bulldogs will open their season and conference schedule this Saturday at 7 p.m. when they host Northwood at Top Taggart Field. The Dawgs bested Northwood 27-7 last season.
