For the second time this year, Top Dawg honors are headed to the volleyball court.
The Ferris volleyball team has been dominant this past week and this whole season overall. Coming off four straight 3-0 sweeps, the Bulldogs are sitting at 13-2 overall.
While the team as a whole are playing at an elite level, one person has been making more moves than most.
Sophomore outside hitter Courtney Brewer has been on fire as of late.
Brewer started out her impressive week with 11 kills, two digs and accounted for a team-high 13 points against Northern Michigan.
That wasn’t the peak for Brewer either. When the Bulldogs met with Lake Superior State on Friday, Sept. 29, the numbers were gaudy.
Brewer lead her team in kills (12), digs (17) and points (14) against the Lakers and was the team leader in two of the three statistical categories again when Ferris took on Saginaw Valley State.
After adding a team high 10 kills and 11.5 points against the Cardinals, Brewer finished the week with a grand total of 33 kills, 20 digs and 38.5 points accounted for.
These are among the best numbers put up by an individual player for the Ferris volleyball team so far this year.
With fans buzzing around fellow sophomore Allyson Cappel and veteran players like Ayanna Buckley, Brewer is quietly becoming one of the soundest players on this squad.
Ferris volleyball will be back in action when they take on rival Grand Valley State on Friday Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Ewigleben Sports Complex right here in Big Rapids.
