Bulldogs Sweep Again at Home

The Ferris hockey team is off to its best home start in school history with a perfect 6-0-0 record at Ewigleben Ice Arena this season.

The Bulldogs swept the Bowling Green State Falcons for their third consecutive home sweep to start the season. The Bulldogs dominated the first match as they skated to a 5-1 victory.

The Falcon’s struck first as they put the puck past sophomore goaltender Taylor Nelson, only 59 seconds into the second period. The deficit did not phase the Bulldogs as they went on to score five unanswered goals, four of which came on the power play.

Golf with a Disc

The Ferris club disc golf team defeated Western Michigan 70-49 at the Michigan Intercollegiate Disc Golf Challenge (MIDGC) third event on Sunday. The event was held at Northend Riverside Park and included four students from Ferris. Disc golf is played similarly to conventional golf in that there are 18 holes and your score is the number of strokes total. Typically, events are scored using stroke-play, which is simply based on the total number of shots a competitor takes and the lowest score wins.

This event, however, was match-play and each hole was awarded a number of points. Brad Way, a senior in the construction management program, said the winner of the hole received two points; each person was awarded one point if they tied and the loser did not receive any points. This event was unique in that players of all skill levels could play because players were handicapped to their individual average.

Fix Your Own Car

More people take their vehicles to auto repair shops for simple repairs than fix them on their own.

Last weekend, I was at home and told my dad that my check engine light was on. I told him my water temperature gauge was not registering anything and he said he would look at it. Three hours later, he had changed the sensor and it was fixed.

Our generation has fewer and fewer people who are willing and able to make minor repairs to their own vehicles.

Not Exactly a Vacation

The Ferris State hockey team will travel to Alaska this weekend on a trip that is longer than all of their other trips combined.

This is the second consecutive season in which the Bulldogs have had to travel to play the University of Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks on the road. The Bulldogs will leave Big Rapids early Wednesday morning and will not return until late Sunday night. Not including Big Rapids, the team will be in five cities in as many days.

The 16-hour travel time to Fairbanks is not the most difficult part of the entire trip, however. Alaska is four hours behind Michigan in terms of time. The games will be played at 7:00 p.m. local time, but to the Bulldogs it will feel like it is 11:00 p.m. Junior defenseman Scott Wietecha said it takes a few days to adjust to the time change.
